Congratulations on your acceptance to IIT!  As part of our commitment to welcoming you to the IIT community, I'll be sending you a series of emails to keep you up-to-date on the enrollment process as well as current events on campus.

Our students are just returning from spring break.  Some of them traveled home to visit family and friends.  Others went away on vacation or remained here to enjoy Chicago's museums and take in a few movies.  Some students stayed on campus to work in research labs or participate in volunteer activities with their fellow classmates.  The campus is once again full of acitivity, and hints of spring are upon us.

Today I have some wonderful developments and announcements to share with you:

IIT has quietly emerged as a bustling home to dozens of software and other high-tech companies, and to a new Starbucks coffee shop and a soon-to-open FedEx/Kinko's store.  It's also home to University Technology Park (UTP), an incubator program on campus providing a number of services for start-up companies, and great internship opportunities for IIT students.

IIT Trustee Ralph Wanger recently donated $5 million to the university to form the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER).  It is part of a campus-wide energy sustainability effort and will create important learning opportunities for students and faculty from across academic disciplines.

Stuart School of Business professor George Nassos and the Center for Sustainable Enterprise have launched the Sustainable Enterprise Blog to explore topics such as the impact of corporations on the environment, the impact of environment on corporations, energy resources, water as a resource, global warming, green business, and ecological legislation.  The blog is located at Sustainabiliity.com.

We hope to greet you on campus in the fall as we continue to foster exciting developments in our community.

Again, congratulations on your acceptance. If we can assist you or your family in any way over the course of the coming weeks, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Gerald P. Doyle
