Hello again from IIT.  Let me add another item to your "To Do List" while you're at IIT.  Last weekend, Lucas (my 8-year old son) and I visited the Chicago Field Museum to experience their new exhibit, Mythic Creatures–Dragons, Unicorns and Mermaids.  Those of you who have visited Chicago might know that this is the natural history museum and part of the South Loop's Museum Campus, just steps away from the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium.  These attractions are just a few miles from IIT—a short trip by public transportation or a bike ride along the lake.

Switching our focus back to IIT, there were more interesting activities on campus last week.  Here are some highlights we have heard from current students:

  • Career Management Center Sponsors a Presentation by Microsoft
    • IIT students attended Technology Trends, an interactive presentation by the Microsoft team, and Q & A with a panel of Microsoft representatives.  Afterwards, students participated in the Gaming Session, experiencing HALO and Rock Band on Microsoft's Xbox gaming consoles.  To learn more about the ways in which the Career Management Center supports the professional development of our undergraduates—and gives them an occasional breath of fresh air, go here.

  • IIT Places Second in the Great Innovation Chase
    • The IIT Great Innovation Chase team placed second of eight universities in the competition.  Modeled after the popular television shows, "The Amazing Race" and "The Apprentice," the ultimate goal of the competition was to create a marketing strategy for Chevrolet that features their new, environmentally-friendly engine technologies, such as the E-85, Hybrids and, ultimately, the Chevy Volt (an electric car).  The teams completed tasks on the Milwaukee School of Engineering campus, and at the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World, and Holz Chevrolet.

  • ACE Formula Hybrid Sendoff Party
    • The Armour College of Engineering Formula Hybrid team hosted a sendoff party for the 2008 Formula Hybrid International Competition at the New Hampshire International Speedway.  The Formula Hybrid Competition, organized by Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College and sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), challenges teams from around the world to build hybrid race cars to compete in several events.

We look forward to running into you on campus and around Chicago in the fall, and to experiencing your own unique contributions to the IIT community.  As always, if we can assist you or your family in any way over the course of the coming weeks, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Gerald P. Doyle
