I hope you are having an enjoyable and safe summer.
We have some exciting news about IIT faculty to share with you:
- New Provost Named
Alan Cramb, Dean of the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) since 2005, will be joining IIT as the new provost in August. Prior to RPI, Cramb was the head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). During his time as dean at RPI, Cramb oversaw an increase in both undergraduate and graduate enrollments, a significant increase in research expenditures, the initiation of a mandatory international program for undergraduate engineering majors, and the introduction of the Lemelson-RPI prize for student innovation. Cramb is the author of more than 190 publications and two patents, and the recipient of numerous engineering and education awards.
- New CSL Dean Announced
R. Russell Betts, Vice Provost for Planning and Programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was named the new Dean of the IIT College of Science and Letters. Prior to UIC, Betts was a faculty member at Oxford University and a group leader at Argonne National Laboratory.
- Faculty Awards
Henry Linden, Max McGraw Professor of Energy and Power Engineering and Management at IIT, has been included in the list of One Hundred Engineers of the Modern Era by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Linden was selected to be a member of this prestigious list from nearly 1,000 nominations.
- IIT Graduates' Work Exhibited
The Museum of Science and Industry's Smart Home exhibit includes cedar benches designed and built by former IIT College of Architecture students under the guidance of Paul Pettigrew, Studio Associate Professor, and Catherine Wetzel, Assistant Professor. The exhibit will run through January 4, 2009.
We are looking forward to welcoming you—and these two new faculty members—in August. As always, don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the enrollment process.
Sincerely,
