As we all look forward to your campus arrival in a couple of weeks, I thought you might like to learn more about what awaits you during Welcome Week.  There are a number of fun events scheduled for your first week at IIT, including:

  • University Welcome — a formal welcome from Illinois Institute of Technology to all students and their families

  • Welcome BBQ — meet new friends at the first meal of the academic year

  • IIT Community Playfair — join us for a fun, high-energy interactive game

  • Candle Ceremony — join returning students as we welcome you, our new students, to IIT

  • Taste of the Quad — enjoy food, lively games, and other entertainment at the kick-off event for Greek Recruitment Week

  • Day of Service — take part in a variety of community-focused service-learning events

  • Trips to Local Stores — a shuttle bus will take students to local stores, where you can stock up on bare necessities

  • Recruitment Week — learn more about the IIT Greek community's fraternities and sororities (open to all students)

  • Student Organizations' Events — join many of our student organizations and student leaders as they offer welcome events for the IIT community

It should be a wonderful week for meeting new friends and reconnecting with friends you might have made during our summer orientation sessions.

Don't hesitate to contact me or my office if you have any questions or concerns.  We will see you during Welcome Week!

Sincerely,

Gerald P. Doyle

P.S. A friendly reminder for our international students as you wander off the plane after your long flight and make your way to campus: please remember to keep your I-94 card with your passport, visa and I-20.  Most officials will staple it next to your visa in your passport, but at times officials do not emphasize its importance and/or slide it in your passport.  If you lose the I-94, it will take up to 6 months and a fee of $350 to be issued a new one.  We will see you at IIT soon, I-94 card and all!

P.P.S. Save the date: Wednesday, August 20
IIT's Paul V. Galvin Library will be hosting an upcoming block party for you and the rest of our incoming students!
