A Note from the Bursar’s Office
Tuition bills were sent electronically to your IIT
email account on Friday, July 31, 2009. If you have
not had an opportunity to review your bill, please
do so as soon as possible. You can also view your
account information online by logging on to the student
portal at my.iit.edu.
Account information can be found on the Finances tab
under the My Account section. The deadline for disputes and changes to your bill is August 16th.
Please note that tuition payments are due in full
by Monday, August 24, 2009. Information regarding payment plan options
is available online at bursar.iit.edu. For

Registration PIN for Fall 2009
Your unique, term-specific Alternate Personal Identification
Number (PIN) allows you to add, drop, or withdraw
from classes. Your academic advisor provides you
with your PIN every semester, after he/she discusses
your class choices and approves of them. You can
also pass your PIN to a faculty member who is not
your advisor to give him/her access to your academic
records. You control the access. Don’t misplace
your PIN or share it with anyone you don’t
want to see your grades, as you will need this number
each time you make changes to your schedule.

- Log into your myIIT account at my.iit.edu
- Click on the Academics tab
- In the Registration Tools channel, select Add
or Drop classes
- Select the term (Fall 2009)
- When prompted, enter your Alternate PIN
- Use the Class Search function to look up and
add classes

Office of Financial Aid Is Ready To Help!
All undergraduate institutional scholarship monies
will be disbursed on Monday, August 24, 2009. All
federal financial aid will be disbursed on Thursday,
September 10, 2009. The Office of Financial Aid is
located in Room 104 of Main Building and open Monday
through Friday from 8:30 AM – 5 PM. Staff
members are available to meet with you to discuss
your financial aid. Appointments are greatly appreciated,
however, every effort will be made to accommodate walk-ins.

Student Health Services, located in Suite 3D9-1
of IIT Tower, offers a wide range of services to
attend to your health care needs. Staffed by an M.D.,
nurse practitioners (NP), and a registered nurse
(RN), the center can:
- Diagnose and treat acute infections and injuries
- Diagnose, treat and monitor chronic diseases
- Prescribe medications and other treatments
- Provide immunizations and other preventative care
- Offer health maintenance care, including women’s wellness care
Some services require a minimal fee, generally much
lower than comparable services provided elsewhere.
Appointments to be seen by the M.D., an NP, or an RN are
suggested. The center is open Monday through Friday

The IIT Center for Disability Resources (CDR) provides reasonable

TechCash Offers Spending Flexibility
TechCash is the campus cash system that allows you
to add value to your HawkCard (your university ID card) for use at IIT Dining
Services locations, 7-Eleven, the IIT Bookstore,
vending machines, and residence hall laundry stations. Money
can be added to your HawkCard online via a credit card or in the
HawkCard Office via cash, check and credit. The online
portal, known as ManageMyID (MMID), not only allows you
and your parents to add money to your card, but it also
allows you to review your transaction history and
report your card if it is ever lost.

New Armour College Dean Natacha DePaola
Natacha DePaola, Chair of the Department of Biomedical
Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)
since 2005, joined IIT as Dean of Armour College
of Engineering on August 1st.
Before RPI, DePaola was an Assistant Professor of
Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University.
She completed a Ph.D. degree in medical engineering
and medical physics from the Harvard–MIT Division
of Health Sciences and Technology in 1991, and postdoctoral
training at Columbia University in 1992.
As chair of biomedical engineering at RPI, DePaola
led a targeted effort to grow the faculty body, diversify
the undergraduate and graduate curricula, and expand
research focus areas and funding. She developed a
departmental vision, mission and strategic plan;
formed a new departmental advisory council; led the
department through a successful ABET accreditation
process; and created the BME Undergraduate Advising
and Student Affairs Office. During her tenure, the
department saw a significant increase in student
enrollment, hired six tenured or tenure-track faculty
members, and strengthened its partnership with Albany
Medical College, including the development of the
Physician Engineer Program—an enriched program
leading to the bachelor in engineering and M.D. degree.
DePaola received a National Science Foundation Faculty
Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, is a
Frontiers Alumna of the National Academy of Engineering,
and is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical
and Biological Engineering.
IIT Summer Headlines
Many Voices, One Vision
The Board of Trustees has endorsed plans
for Many Voices, One Vision: A Strategic Plan
for IIT 2010–2014, and the process will
continue moving forward with implementation beginning
in the coming year. The plan aims to establish IIT

Metra Breaks Ground on New Bronzeville Stop
Local and state politicians along with Metra
and IIT officials participated in a groundbreaking
ceremony on June 29th for the new Rock Island District
Line Lovana S. “Lou” Jones/Bronzeville
Metra Station at 35th and Federal Streets. The station
is expected to open in the fall of 2010.
New Computer Science Chair
Xian-He Sun, IIT Professor of Computer Science, has been
appointed as new Chair of the Department of Computer
Science in the College of Science and Letters.
Sun joined IIT in Fall 1999. He is an expert
in the area of high-performance computing. Sun
assumed his duties as chair in August.
Outstanding Innovators
Riju Konwar, an undergraduate biomedical engineering
student, and Ann Hintzman, an Institute of Design
student, both received Kuczmarski Innovation Awards
for their work in the Connectiviity Competition,
held in Spring 2009 by the IIT Jules F. Knapp Entrepreneurship
Center. Each of the award winners received a $2,500
prize and will be eligible for the Young Innovator
Award, which will be announced at the Chicago Innovation
Awards on October 20, 2009.

See Chicago This Fall on Your U-Pass
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) University
Pass (U-Pass) is designed to allow unlimited travel
throughout the Chicago area for full–time college
students at a discounted rate. Your U-Pass can be
used on any CTA bus and rail system, including suburban
PACE buses. (Metra trains are not included.)
The fall 2009 U-Pass is valid from August 24 – December
19, 2009.
Returning students and new students who currently
have an IIT ID will have a pre-printed card. All
other students should attend a pick-up location when CTA cameras are
available.
Please check the Office of the Registrar Web site at registrar.iit.edu just
prior to the start of the semester for information
about U-Pass pick-up locations. Only full-time
students are eligible to receive the U-Pass.

IIT will be hosting Homecoming on September 20–26, 2009.
The festivities include a week of events and activities

September 25th), and the Homecoming Parade and Carnival
