Greetings from IIT.  We continue to receive great questions about financial aid.  Here are few more responses to students' questions that might help you and your family.

Q: My family and I just recently received our financial aid award and
we would like a few days to discuss this as a family.  Can we get an
extension beyond the May 1st enrollment confirmation deadline?

A: Please get in contact with your admission counselor immediately to request an extension.

Please do not spend additional monies on overnight mail services or carriers.  Regular U.S. post service is fine.  If you are sending your documents internationally, we do recommend sending them through a service that allows you to track your documents.

Q: I would like to learn a bit more about working on campus.  How do I
      find a job on campus?

A: Each year, IIT’s Federal Work Study (FWS) Program employs over 550 students.  These students work in the Galvin Library, Keating Sports Center, MTCC, and other administrative offices.  Some students have secured positions with faculty members, assisting with academic projects and conducting research in labs.  A great many other students participate in a community service program through FWS and provide a range of community service activities with neighborhood organizations.  In addition, several hundred other students find work on campus and in the neighborhood, and are directly hired by local businesses and various departments on campus, including employment at University Technology Park.

Once you arrive on campus, we will provide you with a complete introduction to "finding employment at IIT," which is coordinated with our colleagues in the Career Management Center.

Q: We wish to speak with a financial aid counselor.  Can we schedule a
      time to do so?

A: Yes. We understand that given the work schedules of many parents it is often easier to schedule a time in advance.

To request and schedule a time to speak with a financial aid counselor:

  • Email Mr. Adam Pruitt at finaid@iit.edu with the subject line as "New Students Financial Aid Appointment Request."
  • In the body of the request email, please provide the date and TWO times of the day on which you may be contacted.
  • Upon receipt of your email, we will notify you of the appointment time and schedule.

Q: Can we schedule a time to speak with a financial aid counselor
      outside of regular business hours?

A: We would gladly work with you to arrange a time that is convenient for you and your family.  Please follow the above instructions for requesting and scheduling a time to speak with a financial aid counselor.

As always, we are here to help and we hope to be as accommodating as possible.

Finally, please do not hesitate to contact our Office of Financial Aid with any individual questions that you might have regarding the financial aid process, or contact me directly if I can assist you in any way.

Sincerely,

Gerald P. Doyle
