Outstanding Educator Nominations

Over the last few months, we have gotten to know the students admitted to IIT and the excellence of your academic careers that has helped bring you here.  In addition to your own hard work, we know the support of your educators has played an instrumental role in your success, and we would like to help you honor them for everything they have done to further your education over the years.

We wish to send each of them a letter of gratitude and a certificate of appreciation for the work they have done over the years—including the excellent work they have done to educate you.  Nominate an outstanding educator using our Outstanding Educator Nomination Form.

June 13, 2009

There are a few items that you should take care of prior to your arrival to campus this fall (if you have not yet done so).  I have included some important steps below for the 2009 academic advising and registration process.

Academic Advising and Registration for Fall 2009
(Degree-seeking Candidates)

Step 1:  For most students, the Mathematics Placement Test and Basic Writing Proficiency Evaluation are the first important steps towards registration.  Go here for information regarding math placement and here for writing proficiency details.

Step 2:  Please attend one of IIT's orientation sessions, which will be offered from late June to mid-August.  You can find more information about orientation on the left and on the Summer Orientation 2009 Web page.

All students who are advised and registered during summer orientation will be reviewed by their assigned department advisor in the weeks following the session.  We do expect that some students will not be able to complete their registration during orientation because they are uncertain of their major or will be waiting for their final results of:

– AP or IB Exams
– final transfer credit evaluations
– portfolio reviews for the College
   of Architecture

These issues will be brought up during your orientation advising session and discussed further on a later date with your assigned department advisor.  If you are having trouble contacting your advisor or have any academic advising questions, please contact Matthew Bauer, Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising, at bauerm@iit.edu.

NOTE: Regardless of your ability to attend one of the orientation sessions, you should have or will soon be sent information regarding your assigned academic advisor and the process for advising and registration.  Those of you able to attend an orientation session may then contact your advisor and start discussing class options, in preparation for your summer meeting.  If you are unable to attend one of the Summer Orientation sessions, you can still communicate with your advisor and complete your registration process yourself by following the instructions that will be sent to you.

Step 3:  Log in to your myIIT account for more information about advising and registration.  Logon instructions are available by going here (PDF).

Please let us know if we can be of any help.  You can contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 312.567.3025, 800.448.2329 (toll-free), or admission@iit.edu.

Sincerely,

(Please note that the Office of Technology Services is in the process of updating these recommendations for the new academic year, but also that the information currently on the Web site should still be helpful to families at this time as an outline.)
