Dear Colleague,
We think we have seen the end of snow in Chicago, and with the White Sox and Cubs baseball games underway, everyone is hoping that the warmer weather is here to stay.
As you prepare to work with your 10th and 11th graders, or your seniors who are perhaps rethinking their college choice for next fall, I want to share news with you about IIT.
• On March 3, IIT announced the creation of the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER), funded by IIT Trustee Ralph Wanger's gift of $5 million. IIT has a longstanding history of leadership in the areas of energy research and study; now, WISER and IIT, working together with other universities, will be in a position to play a significant role in national and international efforts toward sustainable energy research, education, and development for the future.
• On Saturday, April 19th, IIT will host its 1st annual Women's Day 2008 (WD08). The program will allow 10th- and 11th-grade girls to explore their academic interests through hands-on sessions in the fields of math, science, psychology, engineering, and business. For more details, and to register, go here.
• This summer, the College of Architecture will host a one-week "Experiment in Architecture" program for high school sophomores and juniors. The program includes visits to Chicago's architectural landmarks and architectural offices; instruction in freehand sketching with an emphasis on interpreting and visualizing the world around us; studio classes with an emphasis on design through 2-D representations and 3-D constructions utilizing computer imaging and model building; and a session on developing and focusing career plans. The program concludes with an exhibition of student work and a reception for students and their families. The same one-week workshop will be offered twice this summer—Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18, 2008 and Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25, 2008—so students can select the session that fits best with their family's summer plans. For more details, go here. The 2008 "Experiment in Architecture" Application Form is available online here.

We wish all good things!
Sincerely,
