Dear Colleague,

Greetings from Illinois Institute of Technology.  I would like to thank you for having emailed and called over the last several weeks.  We are delighted to be working with your students and their families on the transition to IIT for Fall 2009.

I would like to address a few of the most immediate questions raised in your or your colleagues' correspondence.

  1. IIT will continue its traditional Rolling Admission Program through July 15, 2009.  As in the past, the Office of Undergraduate Admission will continue to read and review first-year and transfer student applications and provide students with an admission decision within two weeks of the completion of their application.  Admission and merit scholarship award decisions will be mailed promptly to students.

  2. The university will continue to offer a strong and very competitive merit scholarship-based program to compliment our need-based financial assistance.  In addition to need-based assistance, we offer a range of merit-based and special scholarships, including:

    • Heald Scholarships (up to $10,000 each year)
    • University Scholarships (up to $10,000 each year)

For eligibility requirements and further information on these and other scholarships, go here.

  3. Many of you have asked about career opportunities at IIT, and I thought I would take a moment to share some recent good news with you.

    IIT Engineers Rank among the
    Nation's Top-Salaried Employees

According to the online 2008 College Salary Report issued by PayScale, Inc., students who earn B.S. degrees in engineering from IIT rank number 12 for highest starting median and mid-career median salaries among graduates from U.S. engineering colleges. To derive the data, PayScale surveyed bachelor's degree-holding graduates (without higher degrees) who are full-time employees in the United States. In another survey, PayScale reported the best undergraduate college degrees by atarting median and mid-career median salaries and included the top four salary-earning degrees: chemical, computer, electrical and aerospace engineering, respectively.

PayScale, a market leader in global online compensation data, was launched in 2002 and offers the "world's largest database of salary information" to help employees find their worth.

As we move forward, we want you, your students, and students' families to know that IIT is committed to ensuring that adequate resources are available to our new and continuing students.

If you or your colleagues have any questions about the admission process at IIT, please contact me directly at 312.567.5203 or via email to doyle@iit.edu.

Sincerely,
