I am writing to you because, as of today, we have not yet received your FAFSA. Here are some important steps you should take to ensure that you receive the maximum financial assistance available to attend IIT:
• Apply for need-based financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). All students interested in receiving need-based financial assistance must complete the FAFSA.
• Submit the FAFSA before IIT's priority deadline of April 15, 2008 using IIT's school code. (The IIT Title IV School Code for the FAFSA is 001691.)
Since we have not yet received your FAFSA information from the Department of Education, we are unable to determine whether you qualify for additional federal or state grant programs, such as Pell, ACG/SMART or MAP; the Stafford and Perkins Federal Loan Programs; and the Federal Work Study Program. Once we have received your FAFSA, we will immediately process and send your revised financial aid award letter. The Office of Financial Aid understands how critical full financial information about college is to you and your family, and we will act urgently on your behalf.
Your IIT financial aid officer is prepared to talk with you about filing the FAFSA, alternative loan programs and a variety of payment plans available to you. Once you matriculate at IIT, your financial aid officer will continue to work with you and your family throughout your time with us to provide the highest level of service.
Regardless of the completion of the FAFSA, we would like to re-assure you of our commitment to you during this time. Let me also re-iterate that we recognize that paying for a high-quality education is a primary concern for students and their families. If you or your family have any questions, please feel free to contact us at 866.901.1866 (toll-free) or finaid@iit.edu. Our financial aid officers are available between 8:30 AM & 5:00 PM (Central Standard Time), from Monday to Friday, to assist you in any way they can.
Once again, welcome to the IIT community.
Sincerely,
Virginia Foster
Director
Office of Financial Aid
P.S. Many families do not complete the FAFSA form because they believe that they will not qualify for need-based assistance. We want you to know that there is no "income cut-off" to determine financial need. We consider each student's situation in order to take into account all circumstances that are unique to your family.
