• The Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) Foundation last week awarded Amanda Hallberg, an undergraduate architecture student, with the SOM Prize, one of the most generous awards offered to architecture and design students. The prize "is a $50,000 Research and Travel Grant that enables one outstanding student to do in-depth research, collaborate with other designers, and pursue independent study outside the realm of established patterns."
Hallberg, who was chosen from a field of 91 undergraduate and graduate students from around the country, will travel extensively in Bosnia and Herzegovina documenting and photographing the destruction and rebuilding of religious and cultural monuments. Learn more...

Sixteen Illinois Institute of Technology alumni were recently recognized for their many contributions to their professions, communities, and the university. Alumni honored included corporate giants, entrepreneurs, engineers, architects, designers, philanthropists, politicians, and teachers.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar received the 2007 IIT Global Service Award. He is one of the designers of Intel's Pentium chip; founder of one of India's prominent cellular franchises, BPL Mobile; chair and CEO of Jupiter Capital, focusing on infrastructure, media, and technology ventures; and a member of the upper house of India's Parliament.
