As energy costs across the world soar, hybrid electric cars are becoming a highly sought-after alternative. IIT has one of the world's leading electric vehicle research programs, headed by hybrid pioneer Ali Emadi, IIT Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of IIT's Electric Power and Power Electronics Center. Last week, Emadi's company, Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technologies, Inc., based at IIT's University Technology Park, unveiled the world's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version of the popular Ford F-150 pickup truck at the Plug-In 2008 Conference and Exposition in San Jose, CA. The news is gaining nationwide media coverage.
