As part of a plan to convert corn production waste (stover) into energy, Illinois Institute of Technology's Interprofessional Project 349 team—comprised of undergraduate students from a number of disciplines—traveled downstate to meet with corn farmers. The team is trying to find the most cost effective way to collect the waste, taking into consideration the high cost of fuel and labor, the short time window for harvesting corn, and the expenses involved with transporting the stover and processing it into solid fuel. According to the farmers they met, they're on the right track!
