Most robots built today have mobility but lack agility. IIT Mechanical Engineering Professor Matthew Spenko—in cooperation with the Robotic Mobility Group at MIT—is teaming up with a group of undergraduate and graduate students to create increased robotic mobility. The results of this research are expected to impact mobile robots functioning in tight urban spaces, in avoiding obstacles at short distances and evading hostile forces by traversing unpredictable paths.
